Two men jailed for a vicious attack an innocent bystander

Investigation by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Trafford CID has secured jail sentences for two men who launched a vicious attack on an innocent bystander.

Dominic Hudson (DOB: 30/8/75), of Harboro Road in Sale pleaded guilty to section 20 wounding, possession of a bladed article and possession of an offensive weapon. He was jailed for three years and four months.

Paul Bloomfield (DOB: 30/5/75), of Harboro Road, Sale pleaded guilty to section 20 wounding, possession of a bladed article and assaulting an emergency worker. He was also jailed for three years and four months.

They were both sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court on Tuesday 28 March 2023.

On 1 August 2022, Hudson and Bloomfield were on Harboro Road in Sale and they were witnessed by a member of the public physically assaulting a woman who was with them. 

The member of the public attempted to intervene and shouted over to the woman to ask if she was was OK. It was at this point that Hudson and Bloomfield turned on him and approached making threats.

He was assaulted by Hudson and Bloomfield and cut across his face with a blade before being shoved to the ground and repeatedly kicked and punched. Several members of the public attempted to intervene during this attack which persisted until the arrival of police. At this point Hudson and Bloomfield fled the scene.

Officers pursued the pair on foot and Hudson was quickly detained. A knuckle-duster was recovered nearby and he was arrested on suspicion of a section 18 assault and possession of an offensive weapon.

Bloomfield fled to his home address and barricaded himself inside. Officers forced entry and arrested Bloomfield who assaulted an emergency worker in the process. Bloomfield was then arrested for a section 18 assault, possession of a bladed article, criminal damage and assault of an emergency worker.

Detective Constable Diagne of GMP Trafford CID said: "This was a shocking and violent attack on an innocent member of the public who was with his 12-year-old daughter at the time.

"I would like to thank the bravery of the victim for his actions in trying to help a woman who was clearly in distress. I would also like to thank the other members of the public who tried to stop the vicious attack on him by Hudson and Bloomfield. 

"I am pleased that the case against Hudson and Bloomfield has ensured they are put safely behind bars and I hope they will use the time to reflect on the pain and distress they have caused to the victim and his family."
