Several people were arrested under suspicion this morning (23 May 2023) as Gorton’s neighbourhood policing team sent a clear message to residents that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.
It was an early start for local officers, who have been working hard in recent months to ensure Gorton’s streets are safe for those who call the area their home.
Three warrants were executed simultaneously at around 5.30am, following extensive intelligence-gathering by officers in the community. Two were on Jetson Street, with a further warrant just around the corner on Claymore Street.
Once officers made entry, thorough searches of the houses resulted in several positive finds for the team.
Suspected class A drugs synonymous with supply were seized, in addition to significant quantities of cash, as well as other suspected drug paraphernalia synonymous with supply.
In addition to suspected illegal drugs, officers turned it up a gear when it came to reported vehicle offences, with a total of five vehicles being seized during the course of the morning.
One car was suspected to have been stolen during a burglary and was seized to be forensically examined. Another car was found to be uninsured and was likewise towed away.
Three further vehicles, including a motorbike, off-road bike, and a mini quad-bike, were also seized on suspicion of being stolen.
Two males and a woman, aged 25, 17 and 39, were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.
Another man, aged 37, was arrested on suspicion of suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.
Further arrests were made on suspicion of public order offences and obstructing police.
Inspector Daniel Pickavance, from GMP’s Gorton Neighbourhood Team, said: “These warrants today come in connection to our ongoing work to tackle anti-social behaviour in Gorton and to keep the streets safe. The three searches produced some excellent results and I hope this shows that we are committed to taking action where it’s needed.
“We want the community to know that we have zero tolerance for anti-social behaviour and the many strands that come from it – whether that’s drug-dealing, theft, burglary, graffiti – if it matters to you, it matters to us.
“We are the neighbourhood team and that’s who we take our lead from: the neighbourhood. If you have any concerns, you should talk to us – come to the station, attend a PACT meeting, or follow our socials. If you have anything you’d like to tell us, you can do so by calling 101, visiting GMP’s site, or by contacting Crimestoppers. Your information could provide a huge help to our work.”
