At approximately 2.25am this morning, Sunday 7 May 2023, GMP received reports that a woman, 23, had been attacked on Crossdale Road.
She was taken to hospital for treatment on her injuries, which are serious but not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
A 25-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempt murder and remains in custody for questioning.
DS Neil Moss of Bolton CID said "This was an horrific attack which has left a young woman in hospital with serious injuries.
"We are continuing our investigations to establish the full circumstances of the events and there is increased police activity in the community to provide reassurance.
"I want to appeal to anyone who may have CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage from Crossdale Road at the time of the incident to get in touch with us.
"I also urge anyone who may have found themselves in a threatening situation with a man within the Breightmet area of Bolton to get in touch with us.
