Off-duty officers arrest man following assault at Manchester Victoria station

Off-duty officers helped arrest a man this morning (Friday 19 May 2023) following an incident in Manchester Victoria Station.

A 17-year-old boy suffered injuries not believed to be life-threatening during the incident at the station this morning.

A 18-year-old was subsequently arrested on suspicion of a section 18 assault.

He is currently being held in custody.

There were approximately a dozen off-duty officers on a group trip at the station at around 10.45, but they were quick to action after witnessing the assault, detaining the man and awaiting backup from on-duty colleagues.

The officers, from branches including the City of Manchester district and specialist operations units, managed to file their reports before continuing their day out.

Sergeant Kam Hare, from Greater Manchester Police’s City of Manchester district, said: “This incident shows how dedicated our officers are to their jobs. They truly are on-duty 24/7 and will do whatever they can to help keep the streets of Greater Manchester safe.

“The officers showed the highest level of professionalism and managed to bring the incident to a close almost immediately.”
