"I am shocked and surprised to have won after hearing the citations of the other shortlisted candidates" says Hannah Marney, a Procedural Standards Forensic Specialist, after being honoured with the prestigious Staff Employee of the Year award by Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
This esteemed recognition was announced at the Chief Constable's Annual Awards ceremony, which took place at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on Friday 13 October 2023. Hannah's achievement is a testament to her exceptional dedication and contributions to GMP in various roles.
As a Procedural Standards Forensic Specialist, Hannah is instrumental in delivering forensic training to her team and guaranteeing the quality and its continual improvement of forensic standards. While using her background as a Crime Scene Investigator and Forensic Laboratory Officer, she extends her expertise to train detectives of all levels across the force, ensuring they meet high-quality standards.
Hannah also conducts process audits and plays a direct role in assessing Crime Scene Investigators through the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), further integrating these responsibilities to promote best practices in forensics.
In addition to her normal role, Hannah voluntarily serves as a Structured Debrief Officer, enhancing organisational learning through structured debriefs. These sessions facilitate incident review, communication, refine response strategies, mitigate risks, and identify learning opportunities.
Furthermore, she fulfils a crucial role as a Trauma Risk Management (TRiM) Practitioner, providing essential support to her peers through the TRiM program, which offers peer-to-peer assistance for processing challenging experiences which officers and staff deal with upon a day-to-day basis.
Hannah's dedication and all-round contributions are a testament to her commitment to improving herself and her colleagues across the force.
Accepting the Staff Employee of the Year Award from Chief Constable Stephen Watson, Hannah expressed her gratitude and said:
"Winning this award is one of the highlights of my career. I have always loved working in forensics, and my career is really important to me. I want to be proud of the service we provide to victims. I often push myself to achieve the standard I have set for myself, and I know that sometimes it is more than is expected of me, but I am always proud of the job I do and the results I achieve. I am really proud that the work I have done has been recognised. I did not expect to be in this position, but I am happy that my efforts are appreciated."
Hannah Marney's exceptional dedication and contributions to Greater Manchester Police, in her roles as a Procedural Standards Forensic Specialist, Structured Debrief Officer, and Trauma Risk Management Practitioner, serve as an inspiration to her colleagues across GMP.
Her recognition as Staff Employee of the Year is truly well-deserved.
Congratulations, Hannah!
