GMP sends message to fans attending Bolton vs Blackpool match this weekend

This weekend (Saturday 11 November), Bolton Wanderers will be hosting Blackpool at the Toughsheet Community Stadium in what promises to be an exciting clash between the League One sides.

Greater Manchester Police is working hard behind the scenes to ensure that both sets of fans can enjoy the action safely, not just in the ground but in the surrounding areas, including around the stadium, Bolton town centre, and travel hubs which spectators will be using.

Closely working with partner agencies, including local authorities, British Transport Police, Transport for Greater Manchester, and both football clubs, GMP is helping to ensure that the game goes ahead smoothly, without any abuse or criminal behaviour.

The game occurs on Armistice Day, ahead of Remembrance Sunday, and a minute’s silence will be taking place before kick-off, scheduled for 3pm on the day.

Chief Superintendent Stephanie Parker, from Greater Manchester Police’s Bolton district, said: “This weekend’s fixture is set to be an exciting one, and we want everyone involved from fans to players and staff at the stadium to safely enjoy the game.

“We will not be tolerating any racism, homophobia, or offensive chanting and behaviour, and will act appropriately if this presents itself. Respect has always been a fundamental foundation of football and we will work to ensure this principle is maintained.

“Ultimately, we are there to help you. If you have any concerns regarding criminality or want us to aid you with something, our officers are there to support you. They will be more than happy to discuss any issues with you and provide you with guidance or action where necessary.

“If you would like to report anything, you can do so at any time by calling 101, or visiting www.gmp.police.uk. You can also report information via the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
