Shortly before 8pm on Wednesday 25 October 2023, police were called to a report of a man with a serious stab wound on Moss Lane East in Moss Side.
Officers and other emergency services attended and found a 22-year-old man with serious and life-threatening injuries. He was taken to hospital where he sadly died last night.
From initial enquiries, it is believed there was a disturbance between the victim and his friend with two other men on Moss Lane East.
The two men fled the scene in a car and the victim’s friend stayed at the scene and called emergency services.
No arrests have been made at this time but detectives are working hard to locate the two men who fled the scene and are appealing for help for the public’s assistance to aid their enquiries.
You will be an increase in police officers in the local area working to piece together the full circumstances while the initial stages of the investigation progresses.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Naismith of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “We are in the early stages of our enquiries and are working to build up a full and comprehensive picture of the events leading up to this young man’s death, whilst our thoughts remain with his family who are being supported by officers.
“I understand people will be concerned when they hear of news of what has happened, but I would like to reassure them that we do not believe this was a random attack and we have a number of additional resources deployed to identifying the person responsible.
“We are appealing for the public’s help and are asking for any witnesses to come forward who were on Moss Lane East or in the surrounding area yesterday evening.
“You may think that what you saw is only minor, but it could be vital to the progression our investigation, so please get in touch.”
“I also ask anyone who has dash cam or CCTV footage from this area to contact us on 101 quoting incident 3210 of 25/10/2023.”
