This morning (Friday 6 October 2023), Stockport’s Central Neighbourhood Team executed a warrant at a property on Avenue Street in Portwood following concerns from the local community and gathered intelligence.

The warrant was issued by the court under the Misuse of Drugs act and executed by the Neighbourhood Team and specialist units. A significant number of cannabis plants were seized from the property.

Over 300 cannabis plants were seized from the property with an estimated street value of £40,000.

CANNABIS

Central Stockport Neighbourhood Inspector John Picton said: “Greater Manchester Police won't tolerate the cultivation of cannabis or supply of drugs and will always take decisive action. Proactively combating the production, supply and possession of drugs is a huge priority, we will continue to execute further warrants across Stockport and will continue to apprehend those responsible for cultivating, selling, and distributing illegal drugs and substances in our community. Our officers in Stockport are committed to supporting the community, building public trust and confidence. Our response officers, Neighbourhood teams and proactive units will continue to work collaboratively with partners and the community to combat crime, bringing offenders to justice. We would also like to thank the local community for voicing their concerns about problems and crime in their area, this is extremely helpful to us and can help us build a greater picture on crime across Greater Manchester and allow us to target crime effectively. I would encourage members of the community to sign up for a Neighbourhood Watch scheme. To sign up for a Neighbourhood Watch scheme, visit www.ourwatch.org.uk. You can also sign up for your neighbourhood alert scheme called ‘Bee In The Loop’ which is your direct line to your neighbourhood policing team. To receive free text or email alerts to keep you in the loop about what is happening on your street and in your local community, sign up to www.beeintheloop.co.uk. Finally, you can also report information or crimes directly to us online or by using the LiveChat function at www.gmp.police.uk. If you can't report online, call 101 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers to report information anonymously on 0800 555 111. Always call 999 in an emergency.”
