Man sentenced to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of rape in Manchester

Mohyeddin-Ahmed Ibrahim (12/05/1996) of no fixed abode was sentenced to 10 years at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday 12 October 2023 for the rape and sexual assault of two women.
He has also been given indefinite restraining orders in regards to both women.
The two incidents of rape happened in June and August 2020 in Manchester, with the first incident happening after the woman attended a birthday party at an address on Rochdale Road. Staying at the property overnight, she woke from her sleep to non-consensual sexual intercourse and despite repeated attempts to stop Ibrahim both physically and verbally, he continued to rape her.
After returning home the morning after and speaking to family she was told to report the incident to the police but didn’t at this time.
The second incident of rape happened at the same address two months later and after a conversation over social media, Ibrahim attended the property bringing alcohol with him. The woman remembers waking up in the night with her clothing out of place, then waking a further two times, the latter seeing Ibrahim on top of her, and confronting him.
She contacted a friend in the morning who told her about the first woman who’d told of a similar incident, and calling 999 their reports were made on Friday 21 August 2020.
The first incident happened outside the forensic window for any examinations to be conducted, however due to the recent nature of the report, the second woman was able to provide her clothing for officers to submit for examination and attend St Marys Referral Centre the following day for an examination further forensic evidence to be gained.
Ibrahim, also known as Jamal, was arrested on Friday 21 August 2020, the day the report was made to Greater Manchester Police, with samples taken and clothing and his phone seized as evidence.
Detective Sergeant Sam Owen of Greater Manchester Police’s City of Manchester North district said; “I would firstly like to commend the women for their courage who came forward and gave vital evidence to help send him behind bars for a number of years after being found guilty despite maintaining his innocence throughout.
“It has taken a lot of courage to get to this point and obviously put them through extreme distress as a result. They should have been safe in the knowledge they weren’t going to be preyed on.”
“I hope the sentence goes some way to their own personal healing but sends a strong message to the public that we will pursue all available lines of enquiry to ensure we can bring justice to victims of serious sexual assaults.”
“It remains a priority as a force to tackle violence against women and girls robustly to ensure they are safe in our communities, and I would urge any victims to contact the police in the first instance as soon as possible so we can provide the appropriate support.”
