Yesterday (Thursday 26 October 2023), a man - aged 21 - was arrested on suspicion of murder and has been taken to custody ahead of being questioned by detectives from GMP’s Major Incident Team.
Shortly before 8pm on Wednesday 25 October 2023, police were called to a report of a man with a serious stab wound on Moss Lane East in Moss Side.
The identity of the victim now being confirmed as 22-year-old Badri Issa, was found by emergency services with serious and life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital where he sadly died later that evening.
Detectives are still working with the hypothesis that there was a disturbance between the victim and his friend with two other men on Moss Lane East. Two men fled the scene in a car and Badri’s friend stayed to call emergency services.
The arrest comes from work conducted by teams across GMP, including work by Major Incident Team detectives, our Tactical Vehicle Interceptor Unit, Force Critical Wanted Unit officers and also assistance from the National Police Air Service helicopter in a joint effort to locate the two men that fled the scene.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Naismith, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: "Our team have launched a murder investigation and we are working at pace to establish the circumstances that very tragically led to this young man's death.
“Our thoughts continue to remain with Badri’s family, as officers continue to support them through this devastating time.
"I ask anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area that evening to come forward and know that any information provided will be treated with the strictest confidence. It only takes one crucial piece of information that may be key to getting answers for his family.
“I would like to thank members of the public that have already shared information with us and whilst officers are gathering evidence from the scene and the surrounding area, anyone with information, CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage is asked to contact police via 101 quoting incident 3210 of 25/10/2023.”
A Major Incident Public Portal has been created so members of the public can submit any details and information that may help by uploading direct to the dedicated portal here: Public Portal (mipp.police.uk)
Details can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
