Greater Manchester Police are investigating an incident following a firearms discharge that occurred at around 1am on Sunday 24 September 2023 on St Helens Road in Leigh, Wigan.
Officers have established this was following an attempted assault between two men where a stolen vehicle was used. Following this it is believed a firearm has been discharged by the other man four times.
An investigation was launched immediately following the reports and two men (aged 30 and 27) and a 27-year-old woman have all been arrested in connection with this incident and remain in custody for questioning.
Detective Superintendent Simon Hurst from GMP’s Wigan District said; “This is a obviously a concerning incident for the local community but we strongly believe it was a targeted and isolated attack.
“Thankfully no one has been seriously injured, including any members of the public, and despite the concern around a viable firearm being used we have made good progress in the early stages of our investigation.
“A number of scenes will remain in place throughout today whilst we conduct further enquiries and provide reassurance patrols.
“If anyone has information or detail about this incident we are investigating, please make direct contact by calling 0161 856 7094 or 101 quoting log 228 of 24/09/2023. Alternatively, details can be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
