At approximately 6:15pm this evening (Monday 11 September 2023), officers were called to reports of a disturbance with a group of five males on Windsor Street in Harpurhey, Manchester.
A 34-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries consistent with the use of a bladed article. He remains there at this time in a critical condition.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have launched an investigation into the incident. No arrests have been made at this time and a scene remains in place to assist officers with enquiries.
Detective Inspector L Gibb of Greater Manchester Police CID said: "This investigation is in its very early stages and we are working hard to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
"We are treating this as a targeted attack and I want to reassure the local community that extra uniformed officers have been deployed to the area to carry out enquiries and to provide reassurance. They will remain in place throughout this evening.
"We are also appealing to anyone with relevant information or footage concerning this incident (including CCTV, mobile or dashcam) to share it with police.
"You can make a report by calling 101 quoting 3340 of 11/9/2023."
Alternatively you can use the LiveChat function on GMP's website (www.gmp.police.uk) or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
