Dean Hughes (06/06/1977), currently residing at HMP Risley, has been charged with the murder of Shane Maloney.
Hughes pleaded guilty to a section 18 assault regarding the same incident prior to the victim’s death and received 8 years in custody back in 2019.
Shane sadly passed away in March 2021, 15 months after the incident.
At around 7pm on 8 November 2019, Greater Manchester Police responded to reports of a disturbance at an address on Wigan Road in Leigh.
The case was subsequently resubmitted to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Hughes will appear on Wednesday 18 October 2023 at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court.
