Officers in GMP's Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit (TVIU) were made aware of a burglary at an address in Stockport earlier in the afternoon of 24 September 2023, in which car keys to a Mercedes had been stolen, and the vehicle driven away without the owner's consent.
TVIU spotted the stolen vehicle in Salford and after a pursuit, arrested a 22-year-old male on suspicion of burglary. Following a search at an address associated with the suspect, police discovered four other cars, that had been reported stolen.
These included a BMW 7 Series worth in the region of £102,000, a VW Golf worth £35,000, a Volvo XC90 valued at £60,000 and a Mercedes worth somewhere between £76,000 and £95,000. Collectively, the vehicles are worth up to £300,000.
A further two males, one aged 38 and the other 17, were arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods. Work is currently underway to reunite the recovered cars with the owners and in the meantime, are safely and securely locked up in police garages.
All three males have since be bailed pending further enquiries.
