Officers in Stockport have arrested a teenager after reports of a disturbance in Stockport at the weekend.
Police were called to Sainsbury's in Hazel Grove at around 2pm on Saturday 2 September 2023 where three males were attempting to steal a motorbike from the car park.
They were armed with bolt cutters and a hammer, and attacked members of the public who tried to intervene before police arrived - fortunately no-one was injured and the suspects fled on two motorbikes believed to have been previously stolen.
An 18-year-old male was arrested this morning (5 September 2023) and remains in custody on suspicion of robbery.
Detective Chief Inspector Richard Arthern said: "We are treating this as part of a series of incidents across the Stockport district.
"We won't tolerate this kind of behaviour and have acted swiftly to arrest a suspect.
"We are working hard to identify the other members of the gang and are carrying out a thorough investigation into this incident and others we believe to be linked.
"We still need information on Saturday's shocking incident - anyone who witnessed it or was in the area at the time and has dashcam footage should contact police on 0161 856 9637, quoting log 1874-02/09/2023."
