There has been an increase in young people using off-road bikes in Brinnington, but the installation of cameras at Brinnington Park has resulted in officers being able to work closely with CCTV operators to help identify offenders.
Across the Stockport district, there has been a drastic reduction of residential burglaries over the last two years, with fewer burglaries recorded than ever before.
The Neighbourhood Crime Team are now solving more burglary crimes than ever in Stockport, including those in Brinnington. In March 2022 there were 162 recorded burglaries across the Stockport district, which reduced to 103 in March of this year.
A police post has been set up in the library, with partners also having bases in there. The Neighbourhood Team also visit local premises, conduct inputs at schools and engage with members of the community daily as part of their proactive policing operations in Brinnington.
Inspector John Barber, of our Stockport Central Neighbourhood Team, said: “We deal with ongoing, long-term issues, trying to incorporate a problem-solving approach to get to the root cause of the problem. A big part of that is enforcement, so we will target the criminals that commit crime in that community and use whatever enforcement tactics we have.
“Those can be from a police point of view, or we'll work with partners such as housing to do various enforcements.
“A big part of that, especially for young people, is diversion away from criminal activities. We work with our partners to try and steer young people away from criminality.
“We're heavily involved in the community in terms of meetings, engaging with residents and getting involved in day-to-day activities such as high-risk patrols and plain clothes officers out on the ground.
“Our team will track drug dealers, conduct warrants and deal with crime as part of our long-term problem-solving approach for the whole of Brinnington."
Sergeant Andy Kindness, part of the Brinnington team, said officers are tackling the issue of people using off-road bikes in the area.
Sgt Kindness said: “We do have issues with off-road bikes and antisocial behaviour that's not just unique to Brinnington, it's a force-wide problem and in Brinnington we've had a lot of success in seizing them.
“We did a warrant recently and recovered a bike which had been stolen from Lancashire. This followed a tip off that a bike which had been stolen was being sold on Facebook, we did some research and worked with the owner to firm up the information before executing the warrant.
“We got his bike back to him, so he was very happy with that. These are the kind of results that really make a difference to people who live here.”
