Last night, we received reports that three people had been stabbed at a property on Barnard Road in Gorton.
Three people, a 17-year-old girl, a 43-year-old woman and 64-year-old man had all suffered serious injuries.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services, a 43-year-old woman passed away from her injuries at the scene. The two others remain in hospital for treatment, their injuries are believed to be life-threatening at this time.
A 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene, and at this stage, we are not looking to identify anyone else. He is in police custody.
Whilst our investigation is in the early stages, we do believe that this was a domestic incident.
Our specialist Family Liaison Officers are providing support to the family at this time, and we have a team of highly trained officers working around the clock to understand what led to this tragic incident.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Adrian Girtchen, who is a familiar face in the area, has been working today with our Neighbourhood Policing Teams and partners to patrol the area. He said: “We can feel the shock waves that this incident has sent through the local community, who either witnessed this attack, or woke this morning to hear the tragic news. Many of you may know the family, and our thoughts and wishes remain with them and everyone who has been affected.
“We have additional officers in the area who are there to support you and provide a strong and visible presence. If you have any concerns, or you need someone to speak to in confidence, please do so to one of our many officers who are there.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their support and understanding whilst we continue to carry out enquires at the scene. This is not something we take for granted, and we will continue to do all we can do support the family.”
“We continue to appeal for any information; we would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident to please come forward. We are also interested in speaking to anyone who was in the surrounding area near to Barnard Road at around 11pm last night. If you have any dash cam, doorbell, or mobile phone footage, this could help us in piecing together what happened.
