At around 12.10ppm this afternoon (Monday 12 August 2024), we were called to reports of a collision between a vehicle and a set of metal railings on Palma Avenue near to Manchester Airport.
It is believed that the male driver of the vehicle had a medical episode behind the wheel which caused him to collide with metal railings on the central reservation.
He was taken to hospital with injuries that were described as life changing / life threatening and remains in hospital for treatment.
Enquires are ongoing.
Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.
