Detectives appeal for information after firearms discharge in Cheetham Hill

A firearms discharge occurred on Woodlands Road at around 12:50am this morning (Wednesday 4 November 2024).

The incident occurred after two vehicles intentionally crashed into each other on Crumpsall Lane in Crumpsall following some form of dispute.

One of the vehicles was stolen and they both left the scene severely damaged.

The stolen vehicle later collided with a bollard in Salford and its occupants fled the scene. The second vehicle went to a hotel on Woodlands Road in Cheetham Hill.

Once there, occupants of the second vehicle were targeted by two unknown offenders who arrived on a motorbike.

They approached the vehicle and discharged a firearm at one man, got back onto the motorbike and drove off in the direction of Cheetham Hill. 

Thankfully, no injuries have been reported. 

A 50 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and theft of a motor vehicle. He remains in police custody.

Detective Inspector Terina Arthern, of our City of Manchester District, said: “Since the incident occurred, we have been actively following various investigative leads throughout today to fully understand what transpired.

"We strongly believe these were deliberate, targeted attacks with no wider threats to the public. 

"Officers are present in the area to reassure our local communities, who will understandably be shocked by the events, while continuing to offer support to the victims.

"We are at a pivotal point in our investigation, and I urge anyone in the local area with information to come forward in confidence. This could include eyewitness accounts or any relevant footage, such as CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam recordings.

“We believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community.
