Murder investigation launched following stabbing in Leigh

A murder investigation has been launched today (Wednesday 4 December) after a man has died following an assault in Leigh yesterday. 

Two men in their 50s have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They have both been further arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody for questioning. 

At 6.50pm yesterday (Tuesday 3 December), we were called to Siddow Common, in Leigh to reports that a man had been stabbed. 

Emergency services attended and a man, aged 27, was taken to hospital for further treatment. Sadly, the victim has now died, and a murder investigation has been launched. 

Detective Inspector Matthew Hamer: “Our condolences are with the victim’s family and friends who have sadly lost a loved one today. 

“We have launched a murder investigation, and we have arrested two people, who remain in custody for questioning. 

“With what we know so far, we do not believe that there is a threat to the wider community in Leigh. However, we understand that an incident of this nature will concern residents.  

“You will see an increased visibility of officers in the area while we manage the scene and speak to the community.
