On Thursday 6 June 2024, Simon Quest robbed a man while he was walking through Piccadilly Gardens. He followed the victim on his bike, threw a cup of coffee over him causing him to fall over, and then rummaged through the victim’s pockets, stealing his phone before fleeing the area.
An investigation was launched by detectives in our Operation Vulcan team and a short while later, Quest was arrested in Piccadilly Gardens. When searched by police, they recovered bolt cutters, Mercedes wheel locks, and a man bag.
Quest pleaded not guilty, but following a two-day trial at Bolton Crown Court, the jury found him guilty in just 18 minutes.
Simon Quest (08/05/87) of no fixed abode has been jailed for four years and six months for robbery.
Detective Constable James Hayes from Operation Vulcan said: ”Quest has shown no remorse for his deplorable actions throughout the entire process, so we welcome this sentence.
“Our victim was left completely disoriented and was unable to defend himself and Quest took this opportunity to steal his phone. I’d like to thank the members of the public who rushed to help the victim but also stayed at the scene to share witness statements with us. Their assistance and continued support have been crucial to securing this conviction.
“Operation Vulcan remain committed to making Piccadilly Gardens the safe and welcoming space we know it can be, and our officers remain in the area to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.”
