Cross collaboration from GMP’s Specialist Operations sees one man arrested with large knives and Class B drugs seized

Greater Manchester Police’s Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit (TVIU) and Tactical Dog Unit (TDU) worked in collaboration to apprehend a man who made off into woodlands to avoid being arrested.

At around 11.40pm on Monday 12 February 2024, TVIU officers pulled over a Peugeot Partner van in Stockport to speak to the driver following a routine stop.

As the officer approached the driver, he got his running shoes on and made off from officers heading into Reddish Vale woodlands.

The Dog Unit was drafted in and Police Dog Bren (pictured) located the man hiding under a van, with officers arresting him on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and cultivation of cannabis.

Further examination of the offending vehicle saw multiple large knives and black bin bag full of freshly cultivated cannabis.

Sergeant Paul Holt from GMP’s Tactical Dog Unit said: “This arrest underlines the great collaborative work that is done between two departments here in GMP’s Specialist Operations.

“When we got the call to assist our colleagues from TVIU to assist them in apprehending the suspect, we deployed to the location, and it did not take PD Bren to locate the man in question.

“Five large knives along with a black bin bagged stuff with cannabis was found in the back of the van, drugs we believe had been freshly cultivated and potentially on their way to being distributed.”
