In a joint proactive policing operation with the Central neighbourhood crime team and the Greenheys neighbourhood team, officers were out on a patrol in the Oxford Road area of the city centre today (09/02/2024) when, at around 1.10pm, they spotted two men riding an e-bike acting suspiciously.
Officers stopped to speak to the men and following a search, officers located bolt cutters and a knife.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of going equipped to steal and a 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article.
Detective Inspector Natalie McDonald, of GMP’s Central Neighbourhood Crime Team, said: “We will continue to patrol the streets of Manchester in a bid to stop criminal activity and remove dangerous weapons from our streets.
“We want our streets to be a safe place for those who live and work here and this fast response from our neighbourhood officers over the weekend reinforces our commitment to tackling neighbourhood crime.
“I would now like to urge our local residents to help us to help you keep safe by reporting any information they may have about individuals who carry dangerous weapons or conduct criminal activity.”
