On Monday 12 February 2024, a 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of theft following an incident on Friday 9 February in North Manchester.
Officers received a report around 12:55pm of a 67-year-old woman who had been robbed on Clayton Hall Road.
It was established that the male suspect approached the victim from behind, dragged her to the floor and stole her handbag before making off towards Stanton Street.
The 67-year-old woman was taken to hospital with injuries to her leg and shoulder requiring surgery.
Yesterday, a 38-year-old man was arrested and remains in custody for further questioning.
Detective Sergeant Terina Arthern of GMP’s City of Manchester North district said: “We’d like to firstly thank the public for their assistance in sharing the appeal for information. With the information provided from the local community we have successfully made an arrest and he will remain in custody for further questioning. Every bit of information really counts and is continuing to help us build a clearer picture to ensure we secure justice for the victim of this crime. We are continuing to support her and her family at this time and she is currently awaiting surgery to the injuries she sustained during this incident. We are continuing to appeal for any further information the local community may have regarding this incident, if you were in the local area, have CCTV nearby or witnessed the incident please do contact us as every bit of information really does help. Greater Manchester Police are committed to tackling perpetrators of burglary, theft and robbery and we will do everything we can to secure justice and support victims of crime.”
