Greater Manchester Police’s Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit (TVIU) and Tactical Dog Unit were patrolling South Manchester at around midday on Thursday 1 February 2024 searching for a stolen vehicle when they spotted a car acting suspiciously on Merseybank Avenue.
Following a short pursuit, all four occupants of the vehicle were detained on Nell Lane after a further chase on foot, where Police Dog (PD) Hully located the two outstanding nearby.
The co-ordinated work resulted in four arrests of 15-year-old boys linked to further suspected robberies in the local area and were transferred to custody for questioning.

Chief Inspector Paul Bray from GMP’s Specialist Operations said; “This is a prime example of our co-ordinated work by specialist resources within GMP where our covert officers in unmarked cars were able to respond quickly to a vehicle acting out of the ordinary involving young people, alongside our Dog Unit and the skills we have available to us to be able to track, trace and detain offenders who are trying to evade capture.
“Deployed across the force area, we are privileged to have such hardworking and dedicated officers, and in this case, also goes for PD Hully who is one of our key members of the Dog Unit with an excellent record.
“This means an investigation could be passed onto district officers to ensure justice can be served at a later date for their actions.
“We will continue our patrols and are determined to keep our communities safe using all the resources available to us which covers a broad range of specialised areas and techniques.”
