An operation to combat youth anti-social behaviour saw incidents reduced by two-thirds.
Officers from GMP Stockport’s Prevention Hub carried out plain-clothed patrols in the town centre during the Christmas and new year holidays with a particular focus on young offenders.
In the two-week period in 2022, there were 18 reported incidents – in 2023 that fell to six.
During the summer school holidays, there were 50% fewer reported incidents after a similar operation.
Chief Inspector John Picton said: “Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated as it can have a significant detrimental effect on public confidence, consumer footfall and the ambience and atmosphere within localised areas.
“Combating and preventing ASB is a priority across the force with policing teams proactively tackling the issue and arresting and prosecuting offenders.
“Officers work effectively and efficiently with partners, ensuring that Stockport is a fantastic place for the local community, shoppers, commuters, to work, live and socialise.
“These operations will hopefully continue as we are committed to tackling ASB.
“Incidents of anti-social behaviour should always be reported so police can investigate.”
The ASB operations build on the success of the Operation Rimini days of action run by the Stockport Central Neighbourhood Policing team that saw 39 arrests and 103 charges in 2023.
