In October 2023, Greater Manchester Police oversaw the safety and security of the Conservative Party Conference which was held over four days at Manchester Central Convention Complex.
For officers, staff, and partners working the event, Operation Protector pin badges were available to purchase to commemorate the operation.
Even the Prime Minister was able to get one.
In total, £823.63 was raised for The Christie Charity. Last week, we went to present them with our cheque.
This multi-agency security operation, one of the largest of its kind in the UK, allowed the event to go ahead without incident.
Mike Almond, Operation Protector Logistics Officer said: “Operation Protector pin badges are sold to officers, staff and partners every year, with the proceeds donated to The Christie Charity. They’re a great way for those involved to remember a pivotal point in their career, with the funds going to an excellent cause.
“I’d like to not only thank police and partners who worked tirelessly over the four-day event but thank them for their generosity and donations.”
Amanda Eccles, Corporate Fundraising Manager at The Christie Charity says: “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of GMP and to all those who purchased a pin badge. The Christie Charity is integral to the success of The Christie hospital by providing funds to ensure cancer patients receive the highest levels of treatment and care and have access to world leading research and technology. This is over and above what the NHS is able to provide. We only exist because of the fantastic support from amazing fundraisers such as GMP. Thanks to support such as this, we are able to fund life-changing and potentially life-saving projects that will benefit cancer patients both now and in the future.”
