A member of an Organised Crime Group from Bury has been jailed for more than three years for drugs supply.
Zaigham Ahmad (25/06/1998) of Walmersley Road, Bury, was sentenced to 42 months at Manchester Minshull Street Court on Friday 12 January 2024.
On Monday 9 October 2023, officers working as part of Operation Revoke made efforts to locate and arrest Ahmad in relation to being concerned in the supply of class A and class B drugs, namely cocaine and cannabis.
Upon arresting Ahmad, an iPhone was seized and downloads showed a significant amount of communication relating to being concerned in the supply of both class A and class B drugs.
Detective Sergeant Craig Murray, of GMP’s Programme Challenger Unit, said: “This is a significant result, putting a prominent individual behind bars and off the streets of Bury.
“Ahmad was involved in distributing large quantities of drugs across Greater Manchester.
"Our officers used proactive policing methods to form our investigation – visiting areas he was known to frequent, identifying his vehicle and moving quickly to arrest him.
“Messages found on the device clearly indicated a significant level of involvement in the supply of drugs and that in turn leads to involvement in organised criminality.
"Operation Revoke is a response by Bury police working closely with local authority and partner agencies to tackle serious crime and vulnerability in our communities.
"GMP is dedicated to relentlessly pursuing and disrupting serious criminality, and we are determined to continue to bring criminals to justice and remove them from the law-abiding communities that they are harming.
"Programme Challenger is Greater Manchester’s response to tackling serious and organised crime.
"It tackles all manner of serious crime: county lines, exploitation of young children and vulnerable adults, modern slavery, immigration and economic crime and the use of firearms.
"If you are concerned about criminal activity within your area, you can report this to us directly on 101 or by reporting information using our online report tool at www.gmp.police.uk.
"You can also report information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111."
