On Tuesday 23 January 2024, at 9:34pm, officers were called to reports of a business robbery at ASDA in Atherton, Wigan.
Emergency services attended the scene, however the offenders had made off from the scene, prior to police arrival.
Initial enquiries suggest that at 9:34pm, four males wearing balaclavas and gloves entered the store in possession of a crowbar, knife and baseball bat where they threatened staff to 'get down'.
The store was in operation at the time and the offenders emptied the tills and stole between £200-£400 in cash and up to £10,000 in cigarettes and tobacco.
They then attempted to take money from the self-service machines but was unsuccessful. The four males then left the store with a large builder’s rubble sack with the stolen goods.
The offenders made off from the scene in a Silver Land Rover discovery (BN0 8ACF) which was later reported being burnt out on Robert Street in Atherton, a short distance from the store before they were believed to get into another vehicle.
It is also understood the plates used on the Land Rover were false registration plates.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported from the scene.
Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, the vehicle driving into or out of the store, saw the vehicle or offenders in the Atherton area, or who has CCTV or dashcam footage in the nearby area to submit this to assist police with their investigation.
