Operation Revoke - a district-led approach to tackling organised crime and drugs supply in Bury – will continue to crack down on criminality in the area throughout 2024.
Last year saw a raft of successes: from arrests to charges to sentencings, officers’ proactive work in the Moorside area has seen significant disruption of drug supply and criminal exploitation.
The Revoke team is comprised of and supported by several groups: Operation Challenger, local neighbourhood officers, local authorities and other force resources.
Last year saw more than 100 arrests, over 50 warrants / searches and over £1m worth of drugs seizures.
Now, with a fresh twelve months ahead, Revoke is doubling its efforts to clear Bury of the scourge of drugs and criminals.
This will see an increase in partnership work to focus on the roots of drug issues, while tackling money launderers to cut the cash flow to criminals.
This two-front approach is aimed at cutting off both the demand – by aiding drug users and those at risk of exploitation – and reducing the gains – by shutting down criminals attempts to turn their ill-gotten funds ‘clean’.
The partnership work will see officers combine with Trading Standards, local authorities, housing, probation, and outreach teams to ensure that there is a full multi-agency approach to tackling criminals.
In the coming weeks, officers from Revoke will be meeting with partners in the community to further to discuss plans.
Detective Inspector Jon Connah, from the GMP’s Revoke team, said: “Revoke was a great success in 2023, and I have no doubts that this year will see a continuation of just that. Tackling crime in the Moorside area has seen a significant difference and we have received some great feedback from partners and the community.
“We simply won’t tolerate criminals harming those in the community. This Operation is dedicated to locking up criminals in Bury and putting them behind bars – and what is exactly what we will do. We’re taking drugs off the streets, helping those in need and ensuring that Moorside and the wider area are protected.
“If you have any information on drugs supply in the Bury area, then please do get in touch with us. All of the intelligence we receive in the community is hugely appreciated and can make a huge difference to our work. We want to regularly liaise with the local community to identify and address their issues: to report anything, you can visit our website, call 101, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
