In the early hours of Friday 5 July at around 2.30am, officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Water Street in Manchester city centre.
Emergency services attended the scene, and an 28-year-old man sadly passed away from his injuries.
Detectives believe that two vehicles were travelling on the A57 when at the same time, a pedestrian crossed the eastbound carriageway when the first vehicle collided with the pedestrian on the carriageway and then failed to stop.
The second vehicle collided with the pedestrian who was lying in the road after being hit by the first vehicle. The second vehicle stayed at the scene and assisted officers with their enquiries.
Two people have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and death by careless driving. Enquiries are ongoing.
GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.
