Operation Vulcan shortlisted for prestigious international problem-solving award

Our multi agency operation targeting the illegal counterfeit trade and associated criminality in Cheetham Hill has been shortlisted for another prestigious international award. The Herman Goldstein Award celebrates the very best examples of problem-solving policing across the globe.
Since launching in November 2022, thanks to robust multi-agency activity and problem-solving policing, we have:
- Shut down 216 counterfeit shops.
- Seized over 1,000 tonnes of counterfeit clothes which have been repurposed and donated to charities.
- Tens of thousands of unsafe toys and illicit vapes taken off our streets.
- Made 238 arrests.
- Executed 117 warrants.
- Recovered almost 3 million illegal prescription drugs.
- Seized over £500k which will be reinvested back into Greater Manchester communities.
- Reduced violent crime by 62%.
At the heart of Operation Vulcan is the community who were once blighted by criminality. We continue to police the area to support our residents and plans are well under way with the Council to transform the area into one that will be a safe and prosperous place people are proud to live and work in.
