A total of 50 people were arrested across Salford as part of Operation AVRO yesterday (Thursday 20 June 2024).
Having conducted 15 warrants as part of the day of action, our officers managed to uncover large quantities of drugs, including a cannabis farm in Weaste. Weapons, cash and drug seizures, including a seizure of £10,000 in cash also took place.
Offenders were arrested for a range of offences, including possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs, money laundering, theft, perverting the course of justice, assault and recall to prison.
A traffic operation resulted in eight vehicles seized, 105 speeding offences recorded, 13 people caught using their mobile phone while driving and 17 fixed penalty notices for road traffic offences.
In the afternoon, our mounted unit patrolled the Little Hulton area, while officers attended local schools to deliver inputs to students.
AVRO is a force-wide initiative that delivers a surge of extra resources and specialist officers to a different district within Greater Manchester each month.
The day saw GMP engage in a number of activities through proactive policework, tackling the issues which matter most to the community.Chief Inspector Gareth Humphreys, of our Salford District, said: “Our officers undertake critical work to find criminality and arrest those responsible daily. Operation AVRO gives us an opportunity to showcase this excellent work of our officers and partners through a meticulously planned day of action.
“A lot of time and effort goes into planning these days of action and it is extremely rewarding to see such fantastic results come in.
“Yesterday, we made a significant number of arrests, seized lots of weapons, drugs and money – taking them off the streets of Salford and away from harming members of our community.
“I would like to reinforce our message to any criminals that if you’re undertaking any criminality, our officers will find you and put an end to your criminal activity.”
What is Operation AVRO?
Operation AVRO is a force wide initiative that delivers extra resources and specialist officers to a different district within Greater Manchester each month and launched in Salford in October 2021.
Since then, it has travelled around the force with the operation targeting crimes and concerns that members of the public in that district have told GMP give them the most concern.
