Last night officers from Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit were out across Greater Manchester on the lookout for dangerous drivers and criminality.
Whilst the rest of Greater Manchester slept in preparation for the Bank Holiday, officers from the unit were engaged in several jobs supporting the force in pre-planned jobs including the search for a missing woman and hunting down cloned vehicles.
At 12:30am this morning (Friday 29 March), officers spotted a vehicle driving dangerously on Platting Road, Saddleworth.
After stopping the vehicle and engaging with the occupants a man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and assault of an emergency worker who remains in police custody for questioning.
Inspector Danny Kabal of GMP’s Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit, said: “Our drivers are out day and night protecting the people of Greater Manchester from dangerous drivers and criminality.
“Unfortunately one of our officers was injured during the incident, highlighting the dangers both officers and colleagues across emergency services often face when they are on-duty protecting our communities from harm.
“We will continue to be out across the bank holiday, doing what we do best, reducing crime and keeping people safe.”
