Greater Manchester Police is supporting National Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) Awareness Day today, encouraging everyone to think about, identify and speak out against child exploitation.
GMP is committed to preventing child exploitation, and across the force, proactive operations are regularly conducted by our dedicated multi-agency Complex Safeguarding Hubs. Police and partners continue to educate hospitality staff and businesses on the signs of exploitation and how to report concerns, work with children and young people in schools to empower them to speak out, deliver bespoke safeguarding training packages to professionals, and conduct regular enforcement activity against perpetrators.
With our specialist Complex Safeguarding Hubs dedicated to preventing future children from becoming victims of child exploitation, the Force’s CSE MIT team, established in 2021, are responsible for pursuing historic offenders and investigating the most serious and complex cases across Greater Manchester.
Their overarching aim is to ensure that victims and survivors are offered the support they want or need; help them make informed decisions about their next steps; and to take those steps when they feel they are ready to do so, all whilst securing criminal justice outcomes.
As a Force, our message to victims and survivors is always that we’re ready when they are, they’ll be listened to, and they’ll be taken seriously.
If you are concerned about a child’s welfare or have any information regarding any activities being carried out in Manchester that are worrying to you, contact Greater Manchester Police via gmp.police.uk or by dialling 101. You can also share information anonymously via the independent charity – Crimestoppers – on 0800 555 111.
Being able to spot the signs of exploitation amongst peers could be the difference for a victim and save a child.
