Greater Manchester Police welcomed 79 new Police Constables at a recent attestation ceremony held at Sedgley Park on Tuesday 12 March 2024. This latest cohort was sworn in by Assistant Chief Constable Chris Sykes who has worked with GMP for 29 years.
The attestation ceremony is an important moment for all police officers as they embark on a career in policing.
As officers prepared to pledge, underlining their commitment to GMP and to serve the public with fairness, integrity, diligence, and impartiality throughout their time in post, ACC Sykes drew on his personal experience. Throughout the ceremony, he shared words of encouragement, inspiring them to look ahead as they will be the ones shaping the future of policing in Greater Manchester.
Assistant Chief Constable Chris Sykes said: “I’d like to welcome you - our newest officers - to Greater Manchester Police. You’re joining one of the vastest police forces in the country and will have opportunities to do many different things, whether you’re a response officer going to emergency calls, keeping members of the public safe at Manchester’s biggest events or during specialist operations, or while investigating complex crimes.
“You have a fantastic career ahead as the men and women taking this organisation forward and keeping the people of Greater Manchester safe.
“Congratulations you’re now a police officer, throw yourself into it and you’ll have a fantastic career.
“I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing the impact you will have on the communities of Greater Manchester."
GMP is proud to have a force made up of people from a variety of backgrounds and each new recruit has their own personal reasons for wanting to become an officer.
