Police officers responded to reports of an injured male outside an address on Forber Crescent in Gorton at around 6.30pm yesterday evening (Tuesday 5 March 2024) and upon attending a 16-year-old boy was found with serious stab wounds to his hand. He has been taken to hospital for treatment and has since been released.
Officers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and today, two teenage boys, both aged 15, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They both remain in custody for questioning by detectives.
A section 60 was put in place yesterday evening by Greater Manchester Police in the below defined area of Gorton.
Section 60 map outline
The Section 60 powers under the 1994 Criminal Justice and Public Order Act will run for 24 hours from 19.15pm on Tuesday 5 March 2024 and continue into this evening, concluding at 19.15pm on Wednesday 6 March 2024.
The Section 60 authority grants officers temporary extended powers to stop and search individuals within the area in the defined map which has been introduced following a number of incidents involving a number of reports from members of the public of men with weapons in Gorton.
Detective Inspector Michelle Buchanan, of GMP’s City of Manchester North district, said: “Although we have made two arrests, our work is far from over and we are still working round the clock to investigate thoroughly.
“Yesterday evening extra patrol officers have been deployed around the local area both on foot and in patrol cars and this will remain in place over the coming days whilst we investigate.
“Officers are present in your community and will be on hand to listen to any concerns you may have.
"I would like to thank the public for their support as we investigate in the area and I appeal to them to continue coming forwards with information that is allowing us to take the necessary action to disrupt and dismantle those individuals that have been involved in bringing unacceptable disorder to our streets.
