Yesterday afternoon (Monday 11 March), a knife arch was deployed in Piccadilly Gardens with Operation Vulcan out in full force, supported by partners from Home Office Immigration Enforcement and TfGM TravelSafe officers.
Three arrests were made. A 31-year-old man was arrested for failing to appear at court for common assault, a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of three counts of burglary and possession of class A drugs, and an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply. They all remain in police custody for questioning.
This operation was about providing reassurance to the public and engaging with young people in the city centre, as well as providing a highly visible police presence to deter those wishing to engage in anti-social behaviour.
Inspector Dan Cullum from GMP Operation Vulcan said: “Working with our partners, we were able to proactively engage with members of the public, offer reassurance, and stop anyone coming to the area with bladed weapons.
“Thankfully, no one was found to be carrying concealed weapons, but we were able to arrest three men, who will be dealt with accordingly.
“This is all part of our endeavour reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in Piccadilly Gardens, as part of Operation Vulcan’s latest initiative."
