Officers from our dedicated knife crime team deployed to hotspot areas in Stockport yesterday (Tuesday 21 May 2024) have made a significant arrest on Shawcross Street, Shaw Heath.
The behaviour of a man, aged 55, roused the suspicions of PC Williams and PC John as they were conducting high visibility patrols. They conducted a proactive stop and search, which led to his arrest on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs and possession of a bladed article.
Two knives were recovered and are now off Stockport streets.
Inspector Jon Ezard from the Op Venture team said, “This arrest shows the importance of hotspot policing as well as our power to stop and search.
“Our deployments are data driven, based on where we know incidents involving knives have taken place, or we have intelligence about people carrying knives.
“I hope today’s arrest serves as a reminder to those who choose to carry knives, that we are out there, in your areas, and we are taking robust, proactive action to tackle knife crime and related offences.
“I would encourage anyone who has information about those who may be carrying a knife to report this. You can do this to police on 101, or online, or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously.”
