GMP secure 40 charges in connection with an investigation into child sexual abuse

An investigation by detectives from Salford’s Child Protection Investigation Unit into reported sexual abuse has resulted in a man being charged with multiple offences.

Carl Jones (15/02/1967) of Little Hulton has been charged with multiple sexual offences including rape of a child under 13, attempted rape of a child under 13, and sexual activity with a child under 13.

He will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court tomorrow (Thursday 2 May 2024).

Breakdown of charges:

Nine counts of rape of a child under 13.

One count of attempted rape of a child under 13.

Two counts of causing a child under 13 to watch/look at an image of sexual activity.

Three counts of causing/inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity – no penetration.

Fifteen counts of assault of a child under 13 by touching.

Four counts of assault of a child under 13 years of age by penetration.

One count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child under 13.

Four counts of indecent assault on a child under the age of 16 years.

One count of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a child aged 13 to 15 years.

In March this year (2024), we were contacted regarding the welfare of a child and concerns about possible sexual exploitation. Detectives from our Child Protection Investigation Unit launched an investigation.

Detective Inspector Steven Hughes from our Child Protection Investigation Unit in Salford said: “This has been a diligent investigation and whilst we have secured charges, our work is far from over. We will continue to work closely with our partner agencies to ensure victims and survivors receive the best possible care and support throughout.”
