This weekend, 11-12 May, the firearms licensing team will be at The National Shooting Show in Harrogate, this is a large event for those interested in firearms and shooting.
As part of our ongoing commitment to public safety and education, dedicated officers and detectives are once again going to be at another national event in May for specific certificate holders around licensed firearms to offer and assist in advance and the variations on certificates available.
To own a firearm you need to have been approved for a firearms licensing certificate to ensure the person is responsible and able to handle and owe a gun. The team run checks and issue the certificates but also engage with the certificate holder community to ensure safety levels are maintained.
Detective Inspector Simon Akker our Firearms & Explosives Licensing Manger said; “This event is key for the location as it is our closest venue for licensed firearms holders, which we have around 8,000 in Greater Manchester, to attend and will be our last one for 2024.
“We have attended events previously in Birmingham and Staffordshire, receiving positive feedback. Certificate holders who attend that can lawfully possess, and use firearms are usually for either sport, recreation or pest control.
“This gives us a perfect opportunity to bust any myths and positive engagement around the use of legal firearms whilst also ensure we are protecting our communities as well as the certificate holder under strict guidance and guidelines.
“We will be there to support you and answer any questions you have, with a particular focus on mental health, security and safe shooting.”
The show is due to take place on the weekend of the 11th and 12th of May in Harrogate. Visit https://www.nationalshootingshow.co.uk/ for more information.
