Bury’s newest district commander, Chief Superintendent Kirsty Oliver, is committed to protecting children and vulnerable people and is leading a crime-fighting approach focused on protecting victims and pursuing criminals across the district.
Ch Supt Kirsty Oliver brings nearly two decades of policing experience. She started her career in 2005 and worked across a variety of roles, particularly in vulnerability and partnership work. Prior to being promoted to this role, she was GMP’s Director of Intelligence where she worked to improve the way that intelligence is delivered throughout the force.
Ch Supt Oliver will be leveraging her experience as a child sexual exploitation expert for College of Policing. This is beneficial to her role as it gives her extensive knowledge into how to spot, prevent and safeguard children who could be sexually exploited. She is dedicated to ensuring that children are able to safely go about their day with confidence. To do this she will be working alongside key partners in the multi-agency Complex Safeguarding Team which consist of police, health, and children’s services and are regularly joined by a range of partners across Bury. Their priority is to identify those at risk of being exploited by sharing information at an early stage to enable an effective approach.
Ch Supt Kirsty Oliver is committed to fostering a safe and fair environment for staff by conducting several internal surveys and making sure that her team feels valued and are able to put forth their ideas. She is devoted to ensuring that GMP continue to work closely alongside partners to continuously improve their engagement community work. She is dedicated to working closely with faith and community leaders to ensure the safety and wellbeing of minority communities within the community. It is vital to have regular dialogue with faith and community leaders to ensure that we are aware of anything of concern and are able to provide reassurance to what GMP is doing.
Chief Superintendent Kirsty Oliver said: “One of the first things I noticed when I started here is that there is a real sense of cohesion within the community. It’s such a lovely thriving area and I am thrilled to serve it and its people.
“I am excited to get stuck in and do my part to ensure that everyone who lives in or comes to visit Bury is safe from crime.
“It is vital for me that all children throughout Bury have the same opportunities and benefits to succeed. I’ve done a lot of volunteering with The Prince’s Trust and am passionate to ensure that all children and young people are able to go about their day safely and with confidence.
“I want to do my absolute best so that everyone in the community feels the positive effects throughout Bury.”
