We’ve launched a new initiative in Salford to build on relationships with young people and encourage them to engage with our Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs).
The programme is designed to introduce children to the world of policing and break down barriers to establish a positive connection between the younger generation and local officers.
As part of the day, the children got the chance to take part in a traffic operation with our PCSOs, using the speed gun outside of their school, contributing to the safety of their community.
We hope that this initiative will leave a positive impression on schoolchildren across Salford, empowering them to proactively approach officers in their community to raise concerns and talk with them in the street.
PCSO Mark Fitzgerald from our Salford district said: “This operation was an excellent chance to get the young people involved in a police operation, and the support from passing motorists was excellent, with the children receiving several waves and beeps.
“Young people can come into contact with the police for a variety of reasons such as if they commit offences, or sadly if they become victims of crime, and we strongly believe that the first impressions of police matter and any experience will have a lasting impact.
“It is so valuable for us to be able to have this opportunity to engage with the new generation of Salford and encourage them to get involved and share their concerns with us so that, together, we can drive positive change across Salford.”
