A man has been arrested and a murder investigation is underway following the death of a man in Manchester.
At around 11.35pm last night (Sunday 10 November 2024), we attended an address in Astbury Avenue, Manchester, following a call regarding a concern for welfare.
Upon arrival, a man aged 59, was sadly found deceased at the property. Shortly after, a man, aged 47, was arrested on suspicion of murder. He currently remains in custody for questioning.
The suspect and the victim are believed to have known each other and this is being treated as an isolated incident, with no wider risk to the community.
Officers are currently on the scene as their work continues into establishing the circumstances of the man’s death. A further scene is additionally in place on Woodlake Avenue, in connection with the incident.
A Home Office post-mortem has been authorised and is due to take place later today.
Additional officers will be in the area over the coming days and will be there to provide reassurance and assist with any queries residents may have.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Davis, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “We are working hard to establish the full facts and circumstances of this incident, carefully working through all the detail and evidence available to us.
“A man has sadly lost his life and I want to ensure a full and thorough investigation is undertaken to fully understand the facts and get to the truth. We have specialist officers to work closely with and support his family at this difficult time.
“As we continue our work, I would ask anyone with any information that may assist the investigation to please get in touch with us. The key times I would ask for information is between 9pm and 11pm on Sunday 10th November.
"This could be something suspicious you’ve seen or heard, or CCTV or doorbell footage from the area from around the time. Any information you have could assist our investigation.”
