At around 11.45am on Wednesday 6 November 2024, we were called to reports that a man had been stabbed in West Street in Ashton under Lyne after a disturbance.
After emergency services attended, it was established that the victim, a 39-year-old man, suffered stab wounds which are not believed to be life- threatening.
A man, aged 43, has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and remains in custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Elizabeth Smith from GMP’s Tameside neighbourhood team, said: “We know that incidents of this nature that occur our community are concerning for residents, but we continue to follow numerous lines of enquiry and local neighbourhood officers will be present in and around the area to provide reassurance and investigate.
“We are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident and we believe the suspects and the victim were known to each other.
“This is an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public. We have officers out and about in your community patrolling hotspot areas and anyone with concerns is advised to speak to them.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 9262 quoting log number 1315 of 6/11/24.
“We are continuing to follow up numerous line of enquiry including CCTV, if you witnessed this incident or have relevant footage from West Street yesterday to share, please get in touch and speak to us. Please don’t assume that what you know is already known to us.”
