Detectives investigating non-recent child sexual exploitation in south Manchester have arrested three more suspects. This marks the 67th arrest for the multi-agency operation – codename Green Jacket - launched in 2019 to investigate allegations of multi-victim and multi-offender offending in the early 2000s.
Yesterday morning, 12th November, we arrested a man (aged 56) from no fixed abode on suspicion of rape of a child under 16 years of age.
This follows activity last week, on 6th November, officers executed a warrant at a property in Macclesfield and arrested a man (aged 54) on suspicion of rape of a child under 16 years of age.
A third man (aged 51) was arrested on 11th November on suspicion of sexual touching a child under 16 years of age.
The three suspects have been bailed pending further enquiries.
We continue to work alongside partners and specialist agencies to support victims and survivors and keep them informed of progress in our investigation.
GMP’s Detective Chief Inspector, Zaheer Ali said: “These recent arrests come as a result of speciality trained detectives within our Child Sexual Exploitation Major Incident Team working tirelessly to investigate shocking abuse of young, vulnerable girls over two decades ago.
“We are working closely with Manchester City Council as part of this complex operation which places victims and survivors at the centre of everything we do.
“As we endeavour to achieve outcomes they are satisfied with, we are working with them at a time and at a pace they are comfortable with, while ensuring they have access to tailored support packages from partnership agencies throughout our investigations and beyond.
“We are determined to bring offenders to justice for their crimes, no matter how long ago they were committed, or how complicated the circumstances may be.”
