Officers have launched an investigation following the death of a woman in Bury yesterday morning (Tuesday 26 November 2024).
At around 4.20am, we were called by our colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service who had attended an address on Harrison Street in Ramsbottom, to reports of a concern for the welfare of a woman.
Upon arrival, a woman in her 70s was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
A man and a woman in their 30s were subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody for questioning.
The incident has been referred for a Home Office postmortem, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of her death.
Detective Inspector Chris Mannion, from our Bury district, said: “Firstly, I would like to send my condolences to the family of woman who has sadly died.
“Incidents of this nature will undoubtedly cause shock and distress to those who live and work in the area, we are working to piece together a timeline of events. We believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community.
“The property is now a scene and extra patrols have been deployed for reassurance. We are currently investigating the full circumstances of the woman’s death and are keeping an open-mind as we carry out this work.
“I would urge anyone with concerns, or information to share, to speak with our officers.”
