We’re continuing our journey to be the best force we can be for the people of Greater Manchester through our proactive crime-fighting approach which is protecting victims and pursuing criminals.
Crime has reduced eight percent overall over the last twelve months, accounting for more than 25,000 fewer crimes in GM compared to last year.
Neighbourhood crime is down 17% overall and across every category including a reduction in theft from person (26%), vehicle offences (19%), robberies (12%), and burglaries (10%).
Our proactive mule-agency approach to knife crime has helped decrease hospital admissions by a quarter.
In 2021, we made a commitment to ensuring we attended every household burglary. Since then, burglary arrests have increased by 15.5% and every month there are hundreds fewer victims of this invasive crime across GM compared to three years ago.
More crimes are being solved with around 10,000 more victims of crime receiving justice compared to three years ago, with HMICFRS recognising us as the only force to improve its investigative standards in the last year.
This has seen 1,500 more domestic abuse victims receive justice in the last year compared to three years ago and 3,500 more shoplifting offences be solved compared to the year up to March 2021.
Our victim-focussed approach has seen victim satisfaction reach 64% and we aim to only increase it.
The progress continues from our ‘back to basics’ approach set by Chief Constable Stephen Watson which has been pivotal in the force marking significant improvements to keep communities safe.
Where crimes are committed, we have substantially improved our response to victims in their time of need by picking up the phone in seconds and getting to incidents within minutes.
We’re on a journey of continuous improvements as we crack down on crime and work with partners to solve problems and reach solutions that are sustainable within our communities.
We are proud of the work of our resilient officers on the frontline and those behind the scenes investigating, working together to prevent crime and achieve justice.
