Our Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit (TVIU) were once again quick to react after they sighted a vehicle looking suspicious in a layby last night.
Happening in the dead of night around 11pm on Tuesday 1 October 2024, our specialist undercover high-performance unit found an Audi Q5, boxing it in on Princess Road in Hulme whilst it was stationary before it could make off further.
It later transpired it was stolen at knifepoint from the city centre on Cambridge Street of a terrified woman, and although it was ‘gone in sixty seconds’, just 10-minutes after it was rumbled, meaning the suspect was arrested as the crime was still being reported to us.
The 33-year-old man remains in custody currently on suspicion of robbery.
Inspector Danny Kabal from our TVIU team said; “This is an excellent response from the team, not only to react quickly and using our instincts, but being able to give a victim of crime an extremely quick and positive update.
“It means as a force we are continuing to make a real difference when it comes to vehicle crime as we saw a 13% decrease in September and a 33% reduction compared to the same time last year.
“We know this type of crime is really intrusive and is the reason why as a unit we are tasked with finding those intent on committing these offences and catching them in act so we can bring them to justice.”
