At around 6.45pm yesterday evening (Monday 28 October 2024), we were called to reports of a road traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Chew Moor Lane, Bolton.
It is believed that the vehicle in question, a blue Jaguar XE was overtaking another vehicle when it appears to lose control and ends up on the pavement.
The Jaguar collides with a pedestrian who is walking along the pavement. Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, sadly a man in his 40s died at the scene.
The driver of the Jaguar – a man in his 20s – was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, mobile phone or doorbell footage, from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 4741 quoting log number 2778 of 28/10/24.
Alternatively, details can be shared on our LiveChat function on our website, www.gmp.police.uk or via the independent charity, Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
